Leixões seaport is one of Portugal's major seaports. It serves the city of Porto, Portugal's second largest city and capital in the north, located 4 km to the north of Douro River mouth.

Porto was selected the 2001 European Capital of Culture and is known mainly for its trade in Port wine. Built on the bank of the Douro River, Oporto is a city where the old contrasts with the new. Its winding, hilly, narrow streets are a complement to wide, modern avenues that spread out to the suburbs.

Attractions in Porto include the many famous bridges of D. Luis I and Dona Maria Pia, the Palacio da Bolsa (Stock Exchange), the Gothic Sao Francisco Church, the City Hall and the Avenida Dos Aliados where locals go to commemorate important political and sporting events.
