Mytilene is the capital of the island of (Lesvos) Lesbos, a Greek island located in the northeastern Aegean Sea.It is located in the southeastern part of the island occupying seven hills, while its fortress, one of the largest in the Mediterranean, lies on a pine-covered hillock to the east of the town. Present-day Mytilene is a modern town with many elements from the past. It is the island's administrative, commercial and cultural centre with a population of 40.000.

Lesbos itself boasts lush greenery, award winning beaches, traditional ceramic-roofed villages and friendly locals. Its magical Petrified Forest with 22 million years of history is a major attraction on the island as are the medieval castles, scenic harbors, abundant fish tavernas, and typical cafes.

Lesbos is also home two of the finest art museums in Greece! For Art enthusiasts, a chance to meet the birth village of Theophilos, the precious "primitive art" painter. The infinite olive groves, pinewoods, crystal clear waters, and the hot spring spas of Eftalou or Polychnitos will also enchant you during your visit to Lesbos.

Port Location - The port is located in the capital Mytilene, and is within walking distance of the town.

Travel Links - The island is served by Odysseas Elytis
airport, which is located in the far South-East of the island, around 8km South of Mytilene. Flights run regularly to/from Athens, Thessaloniki, Chios and Limnos. Internationally, the island is a popular holiday destination so is served by regular charter flights.
The island is also connected with the mainland and other islands by ship. Many major companies offer routes between Lesvos and Athens. The main shipping company is NEL Lines.

Local buses run all around the main roads, the major bus stop and information station is located at Mitilini(Major city). Taxis are cheap and most use the meter. A good way to see the island is to rent a car. A local, good quality and affordable car rental place, Auto Moto, can be found at the airport and the city harbour. The island also offers nice hiking routes between the villages.
